The story of the du Ponts begins amidst the French Revolution, fleeing from war the family turned their hope to America, leaving their life in France behind. Irénée du Pont formed The Dupont Company as a manufacturer of gunpowder born at the Eleutherian Mills, on the Brandywine Creek, near Wilmington, Delaware. The company grew quickly in the mid 19th century and Dupont became the largest supplier of gunpowder to the United States military.
Today the company has 150 research and development facilities and employs more than 10,000 scientists and engineers around the world. The Dupont headquarters was a 950,000 sq. ft. mixed-use complex and was one of the first high-rises built in Wilmington, Delaware known as the Dupont Building. In 1913, part of The Dupont Building was transformed into the iconic HOTEL DU PONT.
Now the new owners of the Dupont Building, The Buccini/Pollin Group are excited to enhance this lasting legacy by reimagining this property to once again become the epicenter of life in Wilmington. The building renovations span from the ground floor to the 13th floor and bring new life into this historic space. From 101 dupont place to Le Cavalier at The Green Room, DECO Food Hall to Currie Salon & Spa, The Playhouse on Rodney Square to HOTEL DU PONT, Chemours Worldwide Headquarters to M&T Bank, the Dupont Building is so much more than the original Dupont offices. It is now a City Within Four Walls.
